Most people nowadays consider cooking a chore, and that too a boring one. At the same time however, it is not rare to find people who see cooking in its true shades and consider it a culinary art rather than just a means of making food edible. Then again there are others who think that cooking is a science and many others take refuge in this fact and never learn it because they think it is a “tough” science. Jokes apart, the majority of the cooking community regards cooking as an art that has been evolving since time immemorial and has managed to keep pace with our modern lives and lifestyles.

The best cooks, when you ask them why they do it- restaurant cooks, five star chefs, grandmothers- will tell you that they find it perfect as a medium of expressing their creativity, their emotions and their feelings. Do you think Picasso would have said something different about his paintings? And the best part is that, cooking, like all other arts can be learned and cultivated.

You can learn the art of cooking from your mom, your dad, grandparents or siblings. However, there are people whose aspirations go far beyond the realms of possibility of their families, but then worry not, for you can always take help from the wide variety of easy to use cookbooks that can be bought anywhere and everywhere. Students who are cash strapped so that they can neither eat out much nor spend money on a cookbook can turn to the world wide web, which is undoubtedly the world’s largest collection of recipes and cooking resources.

On the other hand, if you have a little time and a lot of interest in cooking, then you should join a cooking class or school that actually specializes in the art of cooking. Cooking schools nowadays train not just people who want to take up cooking as a profession, but gladly take amateurs who want to learn how to cook perfectly as a hobby or a pastime. In many cases, this could also be a passion. If you are really interested in cooking different types of cuisines or foods, then you should definitely join a culinary training institute to hone your skills. If you are time and cash strapped, then you can even sign up for one of the innumerable cooking courses available online. These are cheaper than real cooking classes and also allow you to learn in your own time.

If you or your kids enroll in different kinds of recreational classes in your free time, then try going for cooking the next time you plan to do so. Cooking is as relaxing and cathartic as any other artistic medium, and in most cases, it is more satisfying and rewarding because you can share the result of your labors with your friends and family.  While your family will definitely feel happy seeing you perform the ballet or when you show them your paintings, you can easily keep on repeating their sense of joy and happiness by learning the art of cooking
